I had a knee replacement 8 days ago. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to have it. Everyone was very empathetic and supportive to my anxiety. The nurses were very kind and helpful. Unfortunately on my release papers I can only make out her initials: ML, the world needs more compassionate healthcare professionals like you.
I had a surgery at Advanced Surgery Center of Bethesda in November 2023. The surgery went well. However, I was notified that there is a refund check that was mailed out to me in April 2025. This is more than 1 year after my surgery. The check was sent to my old address, a house that was sold so I don't have access to its mailbox anymore. I called and talked to a lady named Gonzalez in April 2025. She said she will mail out the check to my new address. I waited a month and no check was mailed out. Then I called her the second time, but once again I found out no check was sent. Then in May 2025 I called her the third time and she said she will send out the checks, I waited three weeks and still no check was sent out. Then I called the office the FOURTH time in June 2025 and another lady told me no check was sent out still. It's not about the money, it's about having integrity and do what said you would be. You need to train your people better because they can't even mail out a check in two months and requires a patient calling them four times to get things done. Get your stuff together Advanced Surgery Center of Bethesda!
No one wants emergency collar bone repair surgery, but other than that, our experience here was top notch. All the staff were attentive and helpful. The nurses were warm and friendly and had plenty of time for all our questions. The phlebotomist got it right the first try, even though the patient had a history of hard to find veins. Even the front desk staff and nurse reminded me to get our parking validated. There is even a really nice cafe with good, diverse food, if you can tear yourself away from the waiting room. They called us the day ahead with our exact costs, so I'm not sure how someone ended up with a surprise bill. As for the person with vomiting, it's a risk. We were prepared for the ride home with towels, a basin, etc. There's not much else to be done; it's outpatient surgery. Our nurse said we made her Monday by being so "nice" so I wonder what she's had to put up with. I have full confidence in this facility and would go back any time.
I had a surgery here in December of 2015. I have two insurance companies, between the two of them, the bill was paid, then in January, 2017, I received a bill for almost $800. I called my insurance company, and the lady identified two errors from their billing department, corrected their numbers and sent them a check for the remaining balance and told me there is zero patient responsibility. Since then I have received two more bills for $566, one last month, and one today. After the one last month I called my insurance company again, who called the surgical center, and they said it was taken care of, no patient responsibility, and he called me back the next day to update me. Yet again, I have another bill with threats to send it to collections in 10 days. Either these people are incompetent, or they are trying to rip me off, either way, I would suggest taking your business elsewhere or you could be in the same boat.
The staff and procedure here went fine and routine, the medical professionals were all professional and gave me confidence in their standard of care, the billing here is not helpful and is not what I would expect from a professional office. The office staff demand payment, pre-procedure for an amount well over what my insurance company said would be my portion of the procedure cost. After paying the amount, they billed the insurance and were paid. Months later, and with several calls to the facility and my insurer, and they admit that I was overcharged and due a refund. They only cut checks "once a month and have TONS of refunds to issue" per the receptionist. 60 days after the overpayment and they are saying it "might" be refunded in another 45 days. Given the office expects payment pre-procedure and for the hospital portion demands payment within 30 days, 90-115 days to "hopefully" get a refund for an admitted overpayment is both unreasonable and unprofessional. I would not use this facility again for the sole reason of billing irregularities.
