Procedure: 5 stars Interaction with Insurance/Billing Department: 1 star I received excellent care the day of my procedure. Everyone was friendly and everything moved along efficiently. I’d especially like to brag on the recovery nurse who made me peanut butter and graham crackers when she saw me getting a little woozy! However, my interaction with the Insurance/Billing Department both before and after was unacceptable. Patient beware, if you have a high-deductible plan or are self-pay! Because I have a high-deductible insurance plan and would be 100% responsible, it was very important for me to get an estimate of my procedure. I started trying to get an estimate two months before. My first call was on 11/12/2025. I continued to call, leaving messages that I really needed to get an estimate of the procedure scheduled for 01/15/2026. Finally, on the day before my procedure, I told the receptionist/operator that I needed to speak to someone immediately. I got a call back within the hour and the insurance specialist stated that my deductible was $14,400 (which I was very well aware of) and my payment due would be $2,820. When I signed my paperwork the day of the procedure, it was clear that there would be additional charges for pathology, the surgeon and anesthesiology but there was no mention of an additional charge from MSC. After the procedure was done, I got a bill for an additional $2,368 (84% higher than the estimate). I talked to someone in Billing who stated I owed more because my insurance didn’t pay. Of course, my insurance was not going to pay because of my high deductible. My high deductible was known. She then confirmed the procedure codes the estimate was based on were the same ones sent over to Blue Cross in the claim. My doctor’s office also confirmed the codes used in scheduling the procedure and they match the charge detail provided by MSC. Still not understanding then why there was a difference, I talked to a manager in Billing who told me the reason for the higher cost was because of something that was written in my doctor’s post-op notes (which happened to be the reason I had the surgery to begin with). The amount I was asked to pay the day of the surgery is just $30 from the member discount negotiated by Blue Cross. I suspect (but cannot prove) that the insurance specialist got it wrong and gave me the member discount instead of the amount I might owe. There were other procedures and other facilities available to me – if I had been given the amount I was actually going to be charged, I would have done something differently. I find it unacceptable that I tried for two months to get an estimate and, when I did get one the day before my procedure (only because I said I wasn’t coming in until I talked to someone), I got an estimate that was off by 84% and now I can’t get a good answer on why the increase. Maybe the additional charge is correct but I don’t have any confidence based on the conversations I’ve had. But, MSC has the upper hand – they told me if I don’t pay within three months, the account goes to collections.
Dr. Jack Cooper preformed my gallbladder surgery. He did a great job! Everybody at the surgical center took great care of me and I’m so pleased. I highly recommend!
The facility is clean and welcoming. I arrived early and was taken back early. Everyone was very professional and friendly from the receptionist, to the nursing staff, to the anesthesia staff to the doctor. This was my second visit in 3 months and I was very pleased with my care both times. Highly recommend this facility for a good experience with outpatient care!
I just recently had arthroscopic knee surgery at Montgomery Surgical Center. This is a very nice facility. Everyone there that I had contact with was very nice, very accomodating and very professional. The doctors and nurses all made me feel so at ease with what is a typically stressful experience. I give my thanks and appreciation to all at Montgomery Surgical Center.
Dr. Chappell… She had a mask and gloves on like I was a sick patient. When I came in for an infection in my finger and all my tests on viruses were negative… her bed side manners were incredibly rude. Umm unfortunately 😥 Wow this was an uncomfortable experience… not sure how to put into words. The doctor tried to make me feel extremely uncomfortable, dumb, insecure and the list goes on. I never write bad reviews. However if I can help someone out to prevent experiencing what I did, it’s okay. It so ridiculous to spend money for no reason.
