In the 33 years Ive been a patient at Marginal Way Intermed, I have nothing but praise. Though at one point the call system was poor. I had the best care there could be by Dr Atkinson. She was a top notch Dr. Unfortunately she recently retired. I have yet to meet my new physician but she was hand picked by Dr. Atkinson. I'm feeling confident she will be good. I would never go elsewhere. From the moment I check in I have a terrific experience. I'm grateful.
Since day one, I’ve been so grateful for Dr Leavitt and Dr Maud. The compassionate, understanding and kind ways they attended to my/our family needs. Through out my pregnancy, me and my husband felt actually cared for there. Front desks receptionists always so nice and wonderful. A few nurses and ultrasound tech were also great too. To sum it up, we made a great choice by going to this place for our needs. Truly, thank you thank you.
This pertains to Family Medicine in Foden Road. (Pediatrics has been amazing, no administrative issues there.) The medical care at Family Medicine has been fine but they are so short staffed administratively that they cannot provide care. I requested a refill on a prescription two weeks ago, that I've been on for years. They sent refill to pharmacy but they didn't tell me that the pharmacy informed them it needed a prior authorization. When I called a week, they said they had sent the PA and were waiting on response. Today they admitted they had not sent the PA and that they are so back logged that it is taking 6-8 weeks for them to submit prior authorizations for routine refill requests. This is a crazy unacceptable delay (I'm a health care provider and 72 hours is routine), and to make it worse they never told me of the delay and lied when telling me it was done. When I asked for a phone number to the leadership team to complain, the PA was done within an hour. Three months ago, I had to call / send portal message 4 times for a refill and was then told they were back up and I should call every time I need a refill instead of using their refill line or portal refill request. I've also had to call or send multiple requests for referrals before any action is taken. Why can't they hire or retain adequate number of staff?
My husband served our country. In return, our family receives ChampVA — a federal health insurance benefit administered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. It is not a fringe or obscure plan — it is coverage earned through real sacrifice. To be turned away from the InterMed practice simply because they choose not to accept ChampVA was a gut punch. We aren’t asking for special treatment. We are asking to be treated like any other patient. When a medical practice chooses not to accept insurance that covers veterans’ families, it sends a clear message about who they value — and this practice has sent the message loud and clear that military families are not valued. I urge InterMed to reconsider its insurance policies and think about the veterans and military families in this community who deserve access to quality care.
Monsieur Daniel Loisoille is warm and personable. He takes time to get to know his patients and cares deeply about their well-being. I give this medical practice a 3 out of 5 for two reasons: 1. - Receptionist conduct: Some of the receptionists lack basic communication skills and, if I may add, cultural sensitivity. During each of my visits, I am asked who my doctor is. I mention Dr. Loisoille and typically pronounce his name in French, as that is its original form and I speak the language. The staff often feel compelled to correct me pronunciation and anglicize it, which feels dismissive and unnecessary. 2. - Organizational issues: The reception team also seems disorganized and surprised by routine requests like scheduling a blood test. This past week, I had a blood test, a glucose test, and a cholesterol test. I received the blood test results promptly via my InterMed account, but had to return to the office to ask about the others. The same receptionist who scheduled the tests called InterMed headquarters for clarification. When she mentioned my name, she referred to me as “Kareem D.” despite my having explained my full name beforehand. A small gesture of respect—like trying to pronounce it—would have gone a long way. Final thought: I’d also like to gently point out that not everyone is familiar with medical procedures or terminology. As a patient, I didn’t know that glucose and cholesterol levels could be measured simply by drawing blood and placing it into a tube. The technician seemed surprised by my questions, but I believe medical staff should be prepared to explain these things without judgment. A little patience and clarity go a long way in making patients feel respected and informed.
