Today I took a friend to this surgery center for cataract removal. I have worked as an RN for over 55 years and have never experienced such unprofessional treatment. The appointment was for 10am. We arrived at 9:45am. The small waiting room was very crowded with many people standing since there weren't enough chairs. Those sitting were shoulder to shoulder. Some people were under the sign directing patients to "socially distance" which was impossible even though it is cold and flu season. 95% of these cataract patients were over the age of 70, and considered high risk for influenza and Covid. My friend was called in for her 10am procedure at 1:15pm! No one came out to explain the delay nor apologize to anyone. My family and I receive our health care at Mayo Clinic, Rochester ,MN, BJC and Mercy Hospitals in St. Louis. I know offices have very hectic days due to unforeseen circumstances. We have received calls from Mayo and BJC stating they are running behind and to come in 1or 2 hours later along with an apology. But today many people had to wait in a crowded room for up to 3 1/4 hours. The staff did not seem concerned about the delay so it seems as if this is normal operating procedure. Did we learn nothing from the pandemic? I am giving the same review to Marian Eye Center. I'm not sure who does the staff education and the scheduling but I feel the culture needs to change.

I had my surgery last Friday by Dr. Gates. The staff are very friendly, and they make sure that you are comfortable. They explain everything step by step of the procedure you are there for, and make sure you understand. They have already called me this week to check and see how I'm recovering, which is very well! Would definitely recommend!
