One star is far too generous for this facility. My experience was terrible from start to finish. I spoke to April over the phone, and she was not only unprofessional but downright rude. To make matters worse, my cataract surgery was canceled due to the ignorance of the anesthesiologist (or better to say are uneducated) contracted with this facility. The lack of communication and professionalism here is appalling. I will never recommend this place to anyone and strongly advise others to avoid it.”
Two stars, more to get attention to a problem than to indicate near-complete dissatisfaction. In fact, I recently had two cataract surgeries, two weeks apart at the center, with good outcomes in both cases. At the first surgery, my pre-op experience was just fine. I may have been the first surgery of the day, at noon. Having had no food or water for close to 24 hours, I was pleased to have a saline drip almost as soon as I was admitted, and almost immediately thereafter to receive a relaxant via the drip that made me indifferent to the subsequent pre-op and actual operation that followed. All well and good. At the second, my surgery was somewhat later during the day. I did not receive a saline drip--"The bags were needed in Florida for hurricane victims. Besides, it's not really necessary anyway." (Then why did I need one last time?) Eventually I was wheeled into the operating theater, without a relaxant administered, and the procedure to ready me for surgery, reminiscent of the final scenes of "Clockwork Orange", took place. After a period of considerable discomfort, the anesthetist and the surgeon arrived, the former injected the relaxant, and the surgery then proceeded as expected, without concern on my part. Subsequently, I asked why the relaxant had not been administered prior to the uncomfortable pre-op procedure. The answer: the surgical center had previously employed two anesthesiologists, enabling one to be in the surgery, as required, while the other could attend to the patients awaiting the pre-op procedures; an anesthesiologist must be present for the administration of the drug and for subsequent observation. However, the center had recently cut back to one--to be present during surgery--so a second was not available to administer a relaxant to those about to begin the pre-op procedure. Even if it too expensive to hire a second anesthesiologist for the center, could they not afford to hire at a lower level: a nurse anesthetist, perhaps in place of some of the many employees wandering around the center, apparently with not much to do? Surely patient comfort should be of primary concern at a surgical center. Even if lens replacement itself is a relatively routine procedure, from a patient's viewpoint, having someone poking around one's eye is not a pleasant experience, most especially in a fully conscious state. Advice to the patient: attempt to get the earliest possible appointment in the day for surgery, and decline to be wheeled into the operating room before a relaxant has been administered. And good luck!
On the morning of surgery. We arrived and were the only people there. The receptionist asked for ID, insurance card and $1495.00! We were shocked. Thinking our insurance has paid for the surgery. We probably should have been prepared for that by our eye clinic. Maybe could have explored some financial options. Just an elderly couple with financial restrictions.
When you fail to plan you plan to fail. Why have you only one laser machine for the cataract surgery . Because you didn't plan for possible failure of a machine i now have to wait a whole month for my 2nd eye surgery. This is more than just an inconvenience for me i am completely deaf and i completely depend on my eyes to function. Delaying my second surgery appointment for two weeks effectively blinded me for a month. If you can't afford back up machines for contingency or speedy repair maybe you shouldn't be running this business. AND their machine broke again for the second time. What kind of unprofessional work do you do to let someone know at the last minute 3 days before their surgery. How I'm going to have to wait 6 weeks between eyes. GET A BACK UP MACHINE!
I recently had cataract surgery at PSCABQ. The facility was nice and the nursing staff was very profesional and compitent. I do have a suggestion regarding the check in staff. I had already received a phone call from the staff with pre-op instructions and my financial responsabilities. My deductable has been paid and my co-pay was zero dollars. On the morning of surgery the lady running the check in desk asked me for $1495.00. With great shock I told her "I don't have that kind of money. I already talked to financial and my insurance pays 100%." She looked in a notebook and said "How about $580.00." I got the feeling I was in a used car lot, negotiating a car deal. She then disapeared around the corner for a minute and returned to say "It's OK, everything is fine." I'm now begining to doubt the integrity of this place. I'm up early, nothing to eat or drink for 6 hours. A little nervous about them cutting my eye open, then getting hit with a $1500 bill that I didn't expect. Now I'm worried if they are going to do the right procedure on the correct eye. A medical facility has great responsability to get EVERYTHING right. Including financial details. The surgery went fine, no issues but the business office staff oversight still leaves a bad impression.
