$7,750 billed for a vasectomy, while the national average price is $500-$1,500. 20 minute procedure with only local anesthetic. Billing says there was no error, "As a large academic medical center, our pricing may sometimes be higher due to the specialized and advanced services we provide. However, we remain committed to staying competitive within the local market. Our pricing is reviewed annually and compared with other major hospitals across Wisconsin to ensure fairness and consistency." Paying my high deductible of $4,500 you can imagine how I take issue with that statement. If you have a low deductible, maybe you don't care, but otherwise, make sure you get it priced out ahead of time (or don't bother and go elsewhere).
Had top surgery today with Dr Rao and it went extremely smoothe. Him and his team were very kind and made the whole process so smoothe , had some giggles with nurses before and after surgery so I really felt confident I made the right choice.
I got a specialist referral from my PCP; they took 35 days to call me back to /schedule/ an appointment. (When I pointed this out at the call-back time, I got a "Your point?" response...). Heavens help you if you need something that your PCP can't deal with...you're WAY better off going directly to urgent care directly and trying to be treated that way rather than making appointments. I understand people are busy. But I also understand (from working with specialists as part of my professional career and private communications with them) that it should not take 2+ months between PCP referral and earliest appointment with a common specialist in a hospital system the size of UWHealth relative to the size of the population it services. If you look through these reviews, you will notice that (generally) the negative reviews are of the hospital system whereas positive ones relate experiences with specific practitioners. I by no means intend to criticize the individuals because I am sure they are (generally) caring, considerate, and adequate. The health system, however, was not in my experience.
I was at the surgical center recently for cataract surgery, and the care I received was outstanding! The room was very private with glass doors and curtains not just stand alone curtains.I was given a warmed blanket and a choice of beverage and snack for when I returned from surgery. Even the gown and socks were a relaxing color of lavender and purple. This review is coming from someone who has white coat syndrome and is extremely fearful of going to see a Doctor let alone surgery, so thank you for everything you do to make it the best experience possible. 🙂
They are overwhelmed it seems as they take weeks to respond to a doctors orders for a procedure and then they schedule many months out.
They offer a variety of surgical services, including ophthalmology, orthopaedic surgery, pain management, plastic surgery, podiatry, obstetrics & gynecology, and otolaryngology.
